Microstructure and biocorrosion studies of spark plasma sintered yttria stabilized zirconia reinforced Ti6Al7Nb alloy in Hanks' solution

A study of spark plasma sintered Ti6Al7Nb alloy reinforced with yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) has been carried out to assess the biocorrosion response in Hank's solution. The results indicate that microstructural changes resulting from YSZ addition were considerably different pure Ti6Al7Nb. All + composites showed a higher Vickers microhardness value 10%YSZ exhibiting most enhanced hardness 955.3 HV 0.1 . Furthermore, all present corrosion resistance solution than except 1YSZ which shows significant drop E corr and I values. This could be due grain refinement less stable oxide film growth kinetics. combination mechanical property promising dental implant nearest future. • two-phase microstructure increased grains. reinforcements reveals presence evenly distributed ?+? lamellae. Enhanced titanium is ascribed solid strengthening. noble shift reduces current density evident composites.
